Advantages and disadvantages of high borosilicate glass

Jun 29, 2023

Advantages:

1. High temperature resistance - can withstand high temperatures up to 800°C and rapidly changing temperatures.

2. Stronger than traditional glass - it is 4-5 times stronger than traditional soda-lime glass.

3. Scratch resistance - it is more scratch resistant than traditional glass due to its high silica content.

4. Chemical resistance - it is resistant to most chemicals and can withstand acidic or basic solutions.

5. Non-porous surface - it prevents contaminants from sticking to the surface.

6. Transparency and clarity - it has excellent light transmission properties and provides clear visibility.

7. Eco-friendly - it is recyclable and can be reused.

Disadvantages:

1. Expensive - neighborosilicate glass is more expensive than traditional glass.

2. Brittle - it is still a glass material and can be brittle, making it susceptible to cracks and breaks.

3. Limited color options - it is difficult to add color to neighborosilicate glass due to its high silica content.

4. Manufacturing difficulties - it is more difficult to mold and shape than traditional glass, which can result in higher manufacturing costs.

5. Light weight - it is lighter in weight than traditional glass, which may not be suitable for certain applications that require a heavier material.
